Sources, scholarship and further reading
Being compiled for the October 1 launch
This study draws on real scholarship, research, and lived experience. As the full study is finished, the specific sources behind each teaching will be gathered and cited here, sorted into the areas below. We will only list sources we have actually used and can verify. We do not fabricate citations, and we clearly separate scholarship from personal reflection.
Biblical scholarship
Hebrew text and translation, poetic form, and the major critical commentaries on the Song of Songs.
Historical sources
The ancient Near Eastern setting, the interpretive history in Jewish and Christian tradition, and how the book was received and hidden.
Sexuality and medical research
Peer-reviewed work on desire, arousal, anatomy, attachment, communication, and sexual health across the lifespan.
Psychology and relationship research
Frameworks for shame, differentiation, trauma, betrayal and repair, and emotional safety.
Theological interpretation
Readings of desire, embodiment, covenant, pleasure, orientation, and conscience, from a range of faithful voices.
Personal experience and pastoral observation
Clearly marked as lived experience and pastoral reflection, never presented as clinical or scholarly authority.
